Thì hiện tại tiếp diễn là một trong những thì tiếng Anh cơ bản và thường xuyên xuất hiện trong giao tiếp, bài kiểm tra. Bài viết dưới đây giúp bạn nắm rõ cấu trúc và cách dùng thì hiện tại tiếp diễn kèm bài tập tự luyện.

1. Cấu trúc thì hiện tại tiếp diễn

Câu khẳng định

(+) S + am/is/are + V-ing + …

Ví dụ:

• I am reading an English book now.
• She is doing her homework at the moment.
• They are playing football in the school yard.

Câu phủ định

(-) S + am/is/are + not + V-ing + …

Ví dụ:

• I am not watching television now.
• He is not sleeping at the moment.
• We are not studying in the library.

Dạng viết tắt:

• is not = isn’t
• are not = aren’t

Câu nghi vấn

(?) (Wh) + am/is/are + S + V-ing + …?

Với câu hỏi Yes/No:

Am/Is/Are + S + V-ing + …?

Ví dụ:

• Are you listening to music now?
• Is she cooking dinner at the moment?

Với câu hỏi có từ để hỏi:

Wh-word + am/is/are + S + V-ing + …?

Ví dụ:

• What are they doing now?
• Where is your brother studying?

2. Cách dùng thì hiện tại tiếp diễn

Diễn tả hành động đang xảy ra tại thời điểm nói

Ví dụ:

• The students are taking an English test now.
• My mother is preparing dinner in the kitchen.

Diễn tả hành động đang diễn ra xung quanh hiện tại

Hành động không nhất thiết xảy ra đúng lúc người nói đề cập.

Ví dụ:

• I am reading an interesting science book this week.
• She is learning how to drive these days.

Diễn tả tình huống tạm thời

Ví dụ:

• Nam is staying with his uncle this month.
• I am working at a small café during the summer.

Diễn tả sự thay đổi hoặc phát triển

Ví dụ:

• The weather is becoming colder.
• English is becoming increasingly important.

Diễn tả kế hoạch đã được sắp xếp trong tương lai gần

Ví dụ:

• We are visiting our grandparents this weekend.
• She is meeting her teacher tomorrow morning.

Diễn tả thói quen xấu hoặc hành động gây khó chịu với “always”

Cấu trúc:

S + am/is/are + always + V-ing + …

Cách dùng này thể hiện sự phàn nàn, khó chịu hoặc không hài lòng về một hành động thường xuyên lặp lại.

Ví dụ:

• He is always leaving his clothes on the floor.
• You are always interrupting me during important conversations.
• My brother is always borrowing my books without permission.

3. Dấu hiệu nhận biết thì hiện tại tiếp diễn

Thì hiện tại tiếp diễn thường đi với các từ và cụm từ:

• now
• right now
• at present
• at the moment
• currently
• today
• this week
• these days
• Look!
• Listen!

4. Quy tắc thêm “-ing” vào động từ

Thông thường, thêm trực tiếp -ing vào sau động từ:

• play → playing
• read → reading
• study → studying

Động từ tận cùng bằng e, bỏ e rồi thêm -ing:

• write → writing
• make → making
• dance → dancing

Động từ một âm tiết có dạng phụ âm – nguyên âm – phụ âm, gấp đôi phụ âm cuối:

• run → running
• sit → sitting
• swim → swimming

Động từ tận cùng bằng ie, đổi ie thành y rồi thêm -ing:

• lie → lying
• die → dying
• tie → tying
